International Day of Persons with Disabilities is December 3rd

In recognition of this year’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Team AgLearn is providing information and resources to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights, and well-being of persons with disabilities.

Background

International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) is a United Nations (UN) commemoration that is celebrated every year on 3 December.

The day is about promoting the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities at every level of society and development, and to raise awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in all aspects of political, social, economic, and cultural life. Team AgLearn joins the UN in observing this day, reinforcing the importance of securing the rights of people with disabilities, so they can participate fully, equally, and effectively in society with others, and face no barriers in all aspects of their lives.

The annual observance of the IDPD was proclaimed in 1992 by the United Nations General Assembly resolution 47/3. Celebrated around the world, IDPD mobilizes support for critical issues relating to the inclusion of persons with disabilities, promotes awareness-raising about disability issues, and draws attention to the benefits of an inclusive and accessible society for all.
